Organic Veganz Roasted Hazelnut 90 g
It’s a hard nut life – which is why we’ve spared no effort by putting crunchy, finely roasted hazelnuts in this bar. Covered in an especially tender, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, the Organic Veganz Roasted Hazelnut will truly candy-coat your life. Pretty sweet of us, huh?
Nut, nut – who's there? Our Sustainability Score!
A vegan chocolate that lets you know how sustainable it is? Super easy with our Roasted Hazelnut! That’s because we’ve printed its own eco balance right on the package – the so-called Sustainability Score! Divided into four categories – CO2 footprint, water consumption, animal welfare and rainforest protection – our score shows you just what our chocolate bar does for humans, animals and the environment. Origin of raw materials, production, packaging, transportation -– everything has been calculated and compared to 110,000 other foods. The results of these comparisons are given in stars. From two stars upwards, the product is already more sustainable than the average of comparable products.
Why are we doing this? Transparency and environmental protection are very close to our hearts: You get all the facts while at the same time we have the chance to make our products more sustainable.
Delicate, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate and crunchy, roasted, whole hazelnuts – with our Organic Veganz Roasted Hazelnut, environment and animal protection taste especially sweet. Does this sound a bit far-fetched to you? Well, take a look at the life cycle assessment of our nut chocolate! In the categories of climate, animal welfare and rainforest, the chocolate bar receives 3 stars, or full marks. Read below to find out how this sweet result was achieved:
Is vegan chocolate really more climate-friendly than milk chocolate? We can answer that with a resounding “YES!” As a comparison: Our organic chocolate made strictly from plant-based ingredients, has a CO2 footprint of 179 g per package (90 g). A milk chocolate bar with the same grammage has a CO2 emissions value of approx. 335 g – that’s almost double!
And why is conventional chocolate more harmful to the climate? There are a few reasons for this: Direct greenhouse gas emissions in factory farming are produced by methane and nitrous oxide. Methanes are endogenous greenhouse gases produced by dairy cows themselves – with 4.3 million dairy cows in Germany, that’s quite a lot. Nitrous oxide is released primarily when fertilising with liquid manure. Indirect emissions are caused by the fact that more and more land is needed for grazing and growing feed. For this purpose, forests and grasslands have to give way or wetlands have to be drained. And this is not beneficial to us or the environment, since forests absorb carbon from the atmosphere. It is also not uncommon for food to be imported, which worsens chocolate’s ecological balance as well.
You already know that milk chocolate is made with cow’s milk. But did you also know what that means for the cow? Cows are artificially inseminated, separated from their calf (for whom the milk is actually intended) and spend their entire lives in a dwelling that is not appropriate for their species. Did you know that a wild, healthy cow can live to be 30 years old but a milk cow has a life expectancy of about 5 years. That’s not fair, is it?
With our Organic Veganz Roasted Hazelnut it’s completely different. Our chocolate bar literally leaves the cow alone and instead uses a cocoa mass that truly melts in your mouth.
The recipe of our nut chocolate is soy-free and without palm oil. This ensures optimal protection against deforestation and therefore supports the preservation of our green forest areas. Why is the rainforest so important? It’s the green lung of our earth and has a huge influence on our climate. Plants, bushes and trees take the CO2 from the air and use the carbon contained therein to grow. This produces oxygen. And who needs that to survive? You got it… we humans do!
If we destroy our rainforests, large amounts of CO2 will be released – which promotes the greenhouse effect and contributes to global warming. Rainforest protection means climate protection! Therefore, it is paramount for all of us that tropical rainforests are preserved.
As you can see from its Sustainability Score, the Organic Veganz Roasted Hazelnut protects the climate, the cow and the rainforest while you munch away! With the water footprint, however, there is definitely room for improvement. How come? That’s because of the cocoa and the hazelnuts: these ingredients need a lot of the valuable liquid for their growth. In addition, the water supply infrastructure in the growing areas is not yet sufficiently developed.
How are we ever going to crack this nut? For one thing, we could source the ingredients from other countries, or we could help directly on site – but all that sounds easier than it actually is and unfortunately doesn’t always work overnight. But we are tireless, full of energy and always open to change. Because at the end of the day we only want one thing: to develop the best products for you and our environment.

With the Roasted Hazelnut we rely mainly on three things – high quality organic ingredients, no artificial additives and meticulous production. The combination of cane sugar, cocoa mass and ground hazelnuts form the basis of the bar while the whole roasted hazelnuts provide a crunchy surprise. When all of the ingredients are combined, they are conched for up to 40 hours. During conching, the temperature is gradually and gently increased to remove moisture from the mass. Cocoa and cane sugar should also be blended together for a prolonged period. This releases the most wonderful aromas, and the texture becomes particularly delicate, smooth and melt-in-your-mouth.
We use these materials in this product.
Oh yes, our Roasted Hazelnut has certainly given us plenty of sleepless nights in terms of packaging. Originally, our plan was to wrap our vegan chocolate in a Natureflex foil, made from wood fibres (after all, it worked out fine with our other vegan bars). Unfortunately, though, the hazelnuts put a damper on our plans! Nuts are incredibly sensitive ingredients and in combination with the natural foil, they lost their freshness and their crunch. That’s why, after much back and forth, we finally decided on a plastic foil – the only way to solve the hazelnut dilemma.
But we still have an ace up our sleeve: Our paper wrapper! It’s FSC certified and printed with mineral-oil-free ink. Paper wrapping and inner foil are an unbeatable team when it comes to protecting the product. Thanks to this combination, the chocolate mass stays nice and chocolatey, the nuts deliciously crunchy and external forces have no way to get in!
As you can see: There are a few aspects to the problem that make it difficult to avoid plastic packaging and why it’s hard to find a solution that works. But of course, as a vegan and sustainable brand, we see it as our absolute duty to look for an environmentally friendly alternative – after all, ingredients and packaging go hand-in-hand. We may not be perfect, but we continually keep our eyes and ears open.
