Trockensoja und Seitan von Veganz

Does your head spin when you hear terms like dried soy, textured soy protein and wheat meat? And more importantly, how, and why should you actually integrate these dry vegan products into your own diet plan? We’ll tell you!

The big plus of soy protein and seitan is that they have a rather long shelf life when dry, and you can use them for your boldest cooking projects with vegan meat substitutes: They are so versatile that you’ll never want to be without them again. Whether as a vegan alternative to spare ribs, big steaks, as minced meat in your Bolognese or cut up as plant-based kebabs on your skewer – with the meat substitute made from soy and seitan, almost any meat dish can be veganized.

What actually is seitan?

Seitan is traditionally made from wheat protein and originally comes from China and Japan, which is why the gluten-based meat substitute is often used for Asian dishes such as satay skewers or Szechuan-style seitan. When prepared, the wheat meat has an al dente and fairly authentic meaty consistency and therefore is equally suitable for imitating a wide variety of comfort food classics like rolled roast, escalope chasseur or sausages. Have fun and experiment with different spices and marinades.

Important to note: If you have a gluten intolerance, use alternatives such as tofu and tempeh instead of seitan and soy when sampling. Also: The Veganz Natural/Paprika cold cuts and our three sausage alternatives to liver pâté, bologna sausage and teewurst spread are also gluten-free and ideal for a hearty snack.

What actually is soy?

Soy, which is used, for example, for our soy mice, soy medallions and shredded soy, consists of defatted soy flour that, thanks to further processing, has a fibrous, meat-like structure. The textured soy is also called soy meat and is completely tasteless without seasoning. But it scores big thanks to its versatile potential uses: You really can conjure up any homestyle classic and holiday treat, but also Dad’s favorite barbecue and Mom’s beloved Asian dishes, among other things, with processed soybeans.
